The Bloody Chamber

I've been working on a series of illustration's for Angela Carter's book of short stories 'The Bloody Chamber'. Heres a preview of a few of the sketchbook pages and roughs that I've been playing with...
The sexual undertones, references to fragile emaciated forms and general macabre tones of the stories has created a strong Egon Schiele, Hans Bellmer influence in the images I've been producing.

'The Company of Wolves.'

I'm going to a life drawing class tonight, and I still have a lot of ideas I haven't tried yet, so I'll be adding a lot more soon I think.

The Anatomy of a Haggis.

Celebrating my ancestory and obsessive love of food (and food illustration!) with a dissection of Haggis, using ink, watercolour, tracing paper, watercolour paper and tape.
Its a very different langauge to my Hellfire Club illustrations.
I'm not sure about these, the scan quality is awful- they just don't transmute digitally at all.

The Hellfire Club

Ok, so these illustrations are all based on the 17th Century Hellfire Club... Rich, debauched men who liked to get together for hedonism and debauchery. Think Boris Johnson, David Cameron and the Bullingdon Club, but with more blashphemy...

They were said to have set a building alight whilst still inside 'to see what it would be like to be in hell.' Mental.

There’s something I find kind of appealing about the whole thing.

What I Loved...

I love Gin. Seriously. I think I have Bombay Sapphire pumping through my viens...

I also love and crave Bagels from Brick Lane. They are always in my thoughts <3

(I have a secret. Sometimes, I buy my paint from B&Q.
Its thick and textured and dries super fast.)

The weathers getting colder, spooning season is upon us.

Yup.

Portugal

A year ago I went to Porto, and I drew a lot. These are a few scans of various sketchbook pages. Kinda got hung up on seagulls and parakeets.

Squid girl is as squid girl does.

Self indulgent drawings stemming from my obsessive love of sea creatures....
I know how repetitive this is. But there is, and will be, more...
